Nukes?

Someone added me on Fbook to a group called Canadians for Safe Nuclear power. Sounds like an oxymoron to me, so I added the following comments to their page and got sucked into a debate with a person who doesn't listen.
Nuclear power is a steam power system, similar to coal. In my opinion steam systems are inherently inefficient and unsafe. Exception being solar/ steam. Candu reactors are 31 percent efficient, and coal\oil plants are 33 percent. Why would we want to dump 69 percent of the heat we're creating into the atmosphere completely unused, when we have a global warming problem? Thorium reactors might be more efficient and have a few other things that are less bad about them, but my bottom line is they will still be dumping over half of the heat created as waste. Not good. We also need to get rid of coal fired plants as they contribute to acid rain. Acid rain has killed countless lakes, and nearly killed off all of the Sugar Maple trees in North America decades ago. This could have had global consequences!
Things I'm for-
More more energy conservation. It's win win.
More hydro power. Very few draw backs
More wind power. Has some drawbacks, which are way overblown by nimby people who carry more political power than they deserve.
More solar power. Has potential to be the cleanest power available.
Things I'm against-
Nuclear power. It's too expensive on many levels.
Coal and other fossil fuel power plants. They have great potential for ecological disaster.
Excessive entitlement.

A little more perspective on the catholic church
